Students on Business English courses come from different sectors and different job grades. They could be clerical staff, executive level directors or anything in between. They may have a specialist area, such as advertising, marketing, legal, etc. If they are young or still studying, they are unlikely to know much about their work. If they are older and more experienced, they may be experts in their field.
Instead of working in an office, they may work in a factory, a laboratory or travel a lot with no fixed office. Students may be studying in a group or on their own if they have urgent needs like an upcoming interview or an important presentation. If bosses and their subordinates are in the same class, internal politics may affect the learning atmosphere.
