What to do before you apply

Complete the pre-admission check-list

1 – Make sure you will get our emails

All written correspondence with EBC is by email. You must have easy access to an email account that you use regularly.
If you have a spam filter, tell your email account to accept emails ending in @ebcteflcourse.com

2 – Make sure that you read the entry requirements

Read the “What are EBC’s TEFL course minimum entry requirements?” section.

3 – Read the Service Agreement

When you apply for a TEFL course you acknowledge your acceptance of the EBC Service Agreement. Read the Service Agreement before you apply.

How to apply for the four week course

  • Contact us to answer all the questions you have before you apply.
  • Complete the pre-admission check-list (above).
  • Click here to apply for the 4 week intensive TEFL course.
  • We will inform you of your acceptance status with 2 working days of receiving your application.
  • You will be contacted to arrange an admissions interview that you must attend in person, by phone or by digital media e.g. Whatsapp, Skype, Viber. etc.
  • You will attend your admissions interview and after you have passed you must send a deposit or full payment as quickly as possible to guarantee your course place.
  • Make your travel arrangements.
  • You will receive is pre-course work that must be completed before you start your course.
  • All arrival information and pre-course is sent to you after you have sent your deposit or full course payment.
  • You must be fully paid before the course starts. We will send you a reminder when your final payment is due.
  • On the first day of the course you MUST BRING a copy of your payment receipts, proof of age and copies of your qualifications or you will NOT BE ALLOWED TO START THE COURSE.

  • We will inform you of your acceptance status with 2 working days of receiving your application.
  • After acceptance you must send your payment.
  • Once your payment is received, you will be sent full instructions about logging in to the course.

How to apply for the blended two week teaching practice course

  • Contact us to answer all the questions you have before you apply.
  • Complete the pre-admission check-list (above).
  • Click here to apply for the blended two week teaching practice course.
  • We will inform you of your acceptance status with 2 working days of receiving your application.
  • After acceptance you must send your payment.
  • Once your payment is received, your course place is guaranteed.
  • Make your travel arrangements.
  • All arrival information and pre-course is sent to you after you have sent your deposit or full course payment.
  • You must be fully paid before the course starts. We will send you a reminder when your final payment is due.

Admissions policy

Minimum entry requirements

Our entry requirements are stricter than most TEFL Certificate courses, because we want to attract quality rather than quantity. We believe that the best people with the best training get the best jobs.

Four week and blended courses

EBC requires you to be at least 21 and to either have a degree or a minimum of 5 years work experience. Almost all other courses including well-known courses will accept 18 year old high school graduates.

Online courses

You must be at least 18 years old to take the EBC Online TEFL course.

Four week intensive and blended TEFL course requirements

Obligatory TEFL certification requirements

Requirements for candidates for the 4 week TEFL course and the blended TEFL course:

  • You must agree to have an admissions interview before you are accepted
  • You should be 21 years old by the course start date
  • You must have a high level of competence in all aspects of English (*)
  • You must have either a degree (or similar level professional qualification) or 5 years work experience

(*) Non-native English speakers are eligible if they meet the requirements mentioned in the Non-native English Speakers section shown below.

Previous teaching experience is not a requirement.

Optional TEFL certification requirements

These are optional requirements that will help your application for the 4 week TEFL course and the 2 week teaching practice course. If you have experience in any of the following areas please include it on your TEFL course application.

  • Lived, worked or travelled abroad
  • Knowledge of a second language
  • Work experience
  • Recent additional studies
  • Experience in dealing with groups of people
  • Volunteer work
  • Mentoring, tutoring or teaching
  • Teaching experience

You must also show serious intent to use your teacher training in a realistic way for your career development.

TEFL certification requirements for non-native English speakers

You must have a face to face, phone or Skype interview with us so that we can assess your speaking skills and assess your English level. We will decide if you have the level to be considered for the EBC International TEFL TESOL certification course and the blended TEFL TESOL course.

After the interview you may be required to shown one of the following:

  • A degree from a university in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the United States of America
  • Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English)
  • IELTS level 6
  • TOEFL (minimum scores 525 on the paper-based test or 80 on the computer-based test)
