Introduction:

A topic that interests, engages, and worries many people is what will happen to our environment in the future? What will happen to the earth if we don´t change our habits?

You would maybe first teach vocabulary regarding climate, environmental issues and natural disasters.

The teacher writes the following expressions on the board or hands them out. (The best would perhaps be to have them in a text.)

– is expected to……..

– will be over/under…….

– may have to look/find, etc……….

– most of us can expect to have/get, etc………

– there is a growing trend…………

– is predicted to rise/fall from – to………

– is likely to………….

– could (routinely) be using…………

– should be

– must be

– can´t be

Activity 2:

Tell the students to put these expressions in the following categories:

  1. Something that will definitely happen.
  2. Something that is probably going to happen.
  3. Something that is possibly going to happen.

Activity 3:

Put the students in groups and discuss what they think will happen to our environment in the next 30 years and what climatical changes we can expect. Have them also discuss what impact these changes will have on our lives.
