Many Madrid loving trainees were in their live-streaming virtual classroom Trinity CertTESOL course class from 3-7 pm. They did the homework and assignments right after class from 7- 9 pm or 10 pm. In Spain, especially in the summer, dinner is not until 9:30 or 10 pm. Clubs and discos don’t open until midnight and stay open till the wee hours of the morning! So your typical day could be:

• 3-7 pm – Online CertTESOL course
• 7-9/10 pm – Rest, Homework, Reading
• 10 – 11 pm – Dinner
• 11- 6 am (Madrid Fun time!)

You can sleep late because you don’t have to be back in class until 3 pm!

The summer months in Madrid go from July, August, and September to mid-October. An alternative to doing your course in the summer in Madrid is to do the online course in July. At the end of the online course, you fly straight to Madrid already a fully qualified and certified English teacher.

What about a F2F course in Madrid?

A typical F2F Trinity CertTESOL course is as follows:

Monday to Friday from 9-5, you are in school. Depending on where you live, you won’t be home until 6 or 7 pm. After being couped inside a classroom for 8 hours, you won’t have the same energy level as you would have on your Online CertTESOL course. You then have to do your homework which will take about 2-3 hours. Remember, this is after you have already been in class for 8 hours!

Pre-COVID, we were only running Face to Face CertTESOL courses. After transitioning to the Online CertTESOL course in April 2020, we have seen a lot of differences in trainee performance, quality of work, energy levels and teaching practice classes. Bottom line, our trainees on the Online CertTESOL courses were more relaxed, with hardly any student drop-out and, in general, just a group of trainees having fun while studying for their TEFL certificate.

I sometimes hear comments about being with the locals, learning Spanish quicker and living in Madrid!

But you can do all of that on these 2 options. If you did your CertTESOL at home and set off for Madrid straight away, you will be in Madrid, ready to experience what it offers. Is there any better local contact than living and working in Madrid? By teaching in Madrid, you get to know Madrileños and other nationalities living in the city. By doing the CertTESOL at home, you would have saved money because you didn’t have to spend on living expenses while doing a 4-week course. However, suppose you are lucky enough to have accommodations in Madrid already. In that case, you can still do the Online CertTESOL from 3-7 pm in your flat or AirBnB.

Lastly, a very important FYI! In Madrid and Spain in general, from 2-7 pm, the city is almost at a standstill. Why? The heat! From 2-7 pm, you can see temperatures as high as 41ºC (105ºF) or more. This explains why Madrid comes to life after 10 pm all through to 7 or 8 am the following day. And surprisingly, it’s still business as usual at 9 am. Shops, offices, stores, restaurants, leisure centres, the whole city opens as if no heavy partying ended just a couple of hours ago. That’s the “gato” in madrileños for you. You’ll also find restaurants and bars that close for the summer.

Our successful Online CertTESOL courses are full of hands-on practical activities delivered online over Zoom by one or two of our experienced tutors. The Online CertTESOL course teaches you how to plan, prepare and provide fun and engaging lessons for all learner levels and age groups.

Even though the course is entirely online, don’t expect to be lectured. This course is full of fun and practical activities that will give you the confidence to write and deliver your lesson plans. You will have the chance to teach real ELLs (English language learners) in your teaching practice classes. In other TEFL schools, you teach your peers in their teaching practice class! How can that be learning to teach? Will your peer “pretend” that he doesn’t understand English?
