Sorry Barcelona, but I had more fun going out in Madrid

Barcelona used to be one of the best places to party but I’ve been visiting since 2010 and I’ve never really had one great party night out in the city.

The best of all has to be Madrid. I LOVE going out in Madrid.

Madrid IS EVERYTHING. From dusk ’til dawn you can eat, drink, dance, take in a show and generally have a great time. Take a look at some excellent bars in the La Latina area. Some of our favourite spots are in Madrid’s greatest barrio, La Latina. Our favourite for name originality in the La Latina district is “Latina Turner”. If you are a gay traveller, check out the Chueca district. Two Bad Tourists have a great list of Madrid’s best gay bars and clubs.

Don’t go out before 10 pm. at the earliest because parties start late in Spain. If you decide to go home at 3 am., you’ll be considered a party-pooper by the locals.

Every bar has its vibe, and each seems to be equally cool in its own way. Many of them will hand over free tapas (tasty bar snacks) when you buy a drink. Bar-hopping is the norm. People combine local dives, stylish cocktail bars, traveller haunts, raucous dance floors and laid-back, alternative crowd hang-outs all in one night.

La Latina, Malasaña and Chueca are close and contain some brilliant venues. Our recommendation? We won’t give any advice except to try them all. The fun comes hopping between them all and discovering your little treasure trove down a back street.

Kapital is still the King of Clubs in Madrid.

If you still are not sure, no worries, Madrid has its very own guide clubbers tour. THE CLUBBERS TOUR MADRID is a daily guided bar tour. The tours bring together students, aupairs, madrileños and tourists in Madrid every night. You’ll also get drinks discounts, free stuff, club entry and, of course, a great time.

Madrid’s Plaza Mayor is a frequent starting point for a great night out.
